YUNT, which opened its first exhibition „Where is the City“ in November, continues to engage the audience with its second exhibition „Invisible City,“ curated by Emre Zeytinoğlu. The exhibition, which opened on February 24, brings together artworks that reflect the surprising movements in the inner parts of the city, the changing meanings of objects, and the contradictory ways of life amidst the different intentions of each person that make up the crowd. It will be open for viewing until May 12, 2024.

Following the first exhibition „Where is the City,“ which explains that a city cannot be defined solely by its iconic buildings or squares and includes other places as well, the second exhibition, „Invisible City,“ explores the significance of the „Invisible“ aspects that we have forgotten in constructing the symbolic structures and squares of a city. It emphasizes the role of these aspects, highlighting that a city is neither a place we imagine and idealize, nor a place defined by a few symbols that stick in our memory.

It reminds us that the production carried out by the city’s residents in their own minds and private spaces, no matter how out of sight it may be, is integrated into the city and will eventually be reflected in its character. It stresses that perceptions or judgments about the place will change when one occasionally witnesses the hidden production and incorporates it into the definition of the city.

„Many of the events and intentions for the future taking place there occur out of sight, making the life of the place so much more diverse than we can imagine, rendering any attempt to convey a description of the city empty. There are such unique places in the city that upon entering, one quickly encounters landscapes and surprising ways of life unrelated to the street outside the door. Therefore, regulations or plans for the city’s future often seem unrealistic. Additionally, due to the fictions in each city resident’s mind, this city is doomed to remain unreal.“

„Participating artists in the exhibition: Sinan Logie, Mehmet Ali Boran, Derya Ülker, Kerem Ozan, Bayraktar, Volkan Kızıltunç, Çağla Meknıze, Nuri Kuzucan.“

Founded by Muratcan Sabuncu and opened in Sultanbeyli under the artistic direction of Sergen Şehitoğlu, YUNT aims to enhance societal possibilities through artistic events. In addition to exhibitions and activities, it seeks to contribute to artistic production through its educational program and supported publications. The focus is to increase the potential for social change by providing experiential and interactive opportunities offered by the venue. The seminar, organized under the academic guidance of Prof. Dr. Eva Şarlak, supports artistic production and intellectual opinion through its lecture program and incentive policy.
