Prize Winner of the Talât Sait Halman Translation Award 2023 – Regaip Minareci
T24 Culture-Arts Regaip Minareci, a translator selected by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) and awarded the Talât Sait Halman Translation Award 2023, established in his memory to promote qualified literary translations.
Who is Regaip Minareci?
Born in Istanbul in 1955, Regaip Minareci completed his high school education in Munich and studied electrical engineering at the Technical University of Munich. He held various administrative positions as an editor, chief editor, publishing director, and publication coordinator in different publishing institutions for many years. As the recipient of the Austrian State Prize for Literary Translation, Minareci has translated numerous classical and contemporary works from German to Turkish.
Award and Evaluation
Regaip Minareci’s translation of „Kairos,“ published by Jenny Erpenbeck’s Can Publications, was selected as the result of the evaluation by the selection committee. He also received a prize of 40,000 TL for translating his novel from German. The selection committee noted that Minareci’s translation remained completely faithful to the author’s style and produced a competent translation. With the footnotes he added and his meticulous translation work, Minareci successfully conveyed the distinctive and experimental structure of the novel into Turkish.
