In the mayoral candidate of CHP for Fatih, Mahir Polat, they evaluated the abolition of visa exemption for Tajik citizens, which they always mentioned in the election agenda, as a positive step.
After the attack on a concert hall in Moscow on March 22, one of the attackers admitted to being of Tajik origin and entering Russia through Turkey, leading to increased attention towards Tajik citizens living in Turkey. In light of this development, it was announced that the visa exemption for Tajik citizens was abolished with a decision published in the official gazette today.
The talented CHP mayoral candidate for Fatih, Polat, was one of the names that drew attention to the presence of individuals of Tajik origin in Fatih with unknown backgrounds. Polat assessed the abolition of visa exemption for Tajik citizens and emphasized the significance of this step:
“Before taking office, I am pleased to serve Fatih and Turkey in perhaps the most important matter by addressing the issue of settling unknown, shady individuals, especially Tajiks, on the agenda. The privilege of Tajik citizens to enter our country without a visa has been abolished with the decision published in the official gazette this evening.”

Do you have information on whether they are dangerous or not, since there is no visa process? Have you identified those who have entered this way? Will you check those who have been in this situation in the past? Which other country has immigrants with such visa privileges? If there is no danger, why have we abolished the privilege? Can you still say that you believe in Fatih and Istanbul, even though thousands of people have come to our city?
