Jagan Chapagain, Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), stated that there is significant food insecurity in Gaza and the risk of hunger in the region is increasing day by day. Chapagain shared a post about the situation in Gaza on the social media platform X. „There is significant food insecurity in Gaza,“ Chapagain emphasized, pointing out that the risk of hunger is increasing day by day, as about 80% of the population is currently facing acute or severe food insecurity. Referring to reports from the Palestine Red Crescent, Chapagain explained that more than a million children and elderly people in shelters are at risk of dehydration, digestive, respiratory, and skin diseases, as well as anemia. Chapagain highlighted that the people in Gaza are confronted with this painful reality every day, reiterating his call for safe and unimpeded access for humanitarian aid to facilitate the distribution of vital humanitarian assistance.
