APA – Speech by the President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmuş

Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) Numan Kurtulmuş stated, „To be honest, we need a new United Nations, a new global peace mechanism, and an international understanding that can bring the world back together within the framework of peace and the principle of equality among people.“ Kurtulmuş, the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, participated in the event of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan on the topic of „Promoting regional cooperation for sustainable development in Asia“ in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. He spoke at the 14th General Assembly of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA).

The Rise of Asia and the Role of the APA

Kurtulmuş emphasized that Asia is experiencing a phase of resurgence and stated that the APA is an important platform to seize new opportunities in Asia and ensure trustworthy and stable cooperation. He explained that Turkey continues its „Asia again“ approach and attaches importance to its relations with Asia.

Russia-Ukraine and Israel-Palestine Issues

Kurtulmuş expressed his concerns about the war between Russia and Ukraine and Israel’s attacks on Gaza, emphasizing Turkey’s stance and responsibility on these matters. He stated that the international community should intervene in these conflicts.

New International Understanding and World Peace

Kurtulmuş stressed the need to establish a new international structure and create an international understanding that brings the world together within the framework of equality and peace among people. He stated that a new era has begun in world politics.
