İliç Goldmine Disaster and EIA Reports
At least nine workers lost their lives in the landslide disaster at the Çöpler Gold Mine of the Anagold company in the İliç district of Erzincan. Various claims were made after the disaster. Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya stated that the land had shifted by 800 meters. It was reported that the mine consists of materials containing cyanide and sulfuric acid.
EIA Reports and Inspections
The disaster at the Çöpler Gold Mine has highlighted the importance of EIA reports and inspections. Allegations were made that the company had decided that there was no need for an EIA report during Murat Kurum’s term. It is stated that the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change inspected the mine 135 times.
Precautions and Search and Rescue Operations
Precautions were quickly taken after the landslide at the İliç Gold Mine. Search and rescue operations in the region are ongoing, and precautions against hazardous substances are being taken through sample collection. It is planned to transport 400,000 trucks of material after the landslide.
