In the new expert report on the Furkan Apartment in the Nizip district of Gaziantep, which collapsed during the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş and caused the death of 51 people, it was found that individuals responsible for the renovations and modifications carried out on the ground floor, basement, and intermediate floors without a project and without a license were fundamentally at fault. During the earthquakes focused on Kahramanmaraş, only the Furkan residential building in the Nizip district of Gaziantep was destroyed. The indictment requested a prison sentence of up to 15 years for the detained defendants Eyüp Öğüt, Faik Öğüt, Nejdet Alpay, Yılmaz Şahin Yurtyapan, and the non-detained defendants Abdullah İhtilal Sever and Hasan Hüseyin Sever for „causing death“ and „injury through negligence“. The court decided to issue a search warrant with a red notice for the fugitive defendants and the contractors Abdullah İhtilal Sever and Hasan Hüseyin Sever. Additionally, a new report from Karadeniz Technical University was requested due to the inadequacy of the previous expert report. The report highlighted deficiencies in the static project content, foundation dimensions, foundation safety stress, and reinforcement details during the construction phase of the Furkan Apartment. Furthermore, discrepancies between the project and implementation during the completion phase of the building were emphasized. The lawyer of the victims, Mehmet Aykut Başderici, mentioned that there were clear discrepancies in the construction of certain structural system elements compared to the static project, as well as unauthorized extensions made to different floors of the building. The next hearing for the case is scheduled for April 26th.
