Amine Cansu Çelik: Transition from AKP to CHP
A member of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) and the City Council of Üsküdar, who resigned from the AKP two years ago, Amine Cansu Çelik has joined the CHP. Çelik will once again lead the CHP’s city council list in Üsküdar.
In his resignation statement, Çelik said: „The reasons for leaving my party, which I joined at the age of 19 with great ideals for my homeland and nation, are: departure from justice, discrediting over time, incompetence of officials.“ He pointed out the betrayal of hope, especially of the youth, which hurts the conscience, and emphasized that saying „what we absolutely cannot say“ is wrong.
Çelik, who will continue to be an independent member of parliament from 2022, became the top candidate on the CHP’s Üsküdar list.
Çelik’s motivation and public perception during his transition from the AKP to the CHP could be an important issue. Furthermore, it may also raise questions about the role Çelik will play in the CHP and the influence he will have within the party.
