Gökalp Kökçü’s Accusations
In his defense plea two years ago, former prosecutor Gökalp Kökçü, who was under three different investigations by the HSK, claimed that many FETO files, including those related to the daughter of Mehmet İhsan Arslan, one of the founders of the AKP, were seized under pressure from the Chief Public Prosecutor and his deputy.
The 1st Chamber of the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) changed the duty stations of 506 judges and prosecutors with the decree published on December 21. The decree also included prosecutors and members of critical courts conducting investigations that are closely monitored by the public. With the decree, HSK appointed Anatolian Public Prosecutor of Istanbul, Gökalp Kökçü, who conducted investigations into Dilan Polat and match-fixing, to the Prosecutor’s Office of the Erzurum District Court.
Kökçü’s Accusations and Retirement
After the accusations, Kökçü submitted his retirement request. In his defense statement sent to the HSK on March 8, 2022, within the framework of the investigation initiated regarding the accusations against him, Kökçü accused other members of the judiciary. The FETO files and their fate during the years when Kökçü served as a terrorism prosecutor at the Çağlayan courthouse were explained.
Undesirable Measures and FETO File
In Kökçü’s defense, which he sent to the HSK two years ago, he claimed that he was conducting a FETO investigation against Mohammed Alçelebi and that „the Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor called him to his office and informed him that the Chief Public Prosecutor had asked him not to take measures such as requesting an arrest warrant against Alçelebi and not to take any action against him.“
Kökçü stated that the Chief Prosecutor and his deputy frequently called him about the Alçelebi file to warn him internally, and explained that they had found out during the investigations that hundreds of money transfers of less than $10,000 had been made regarding Alçelebi to Mustafa Özcan, one of the top managers of FETO, and to the Herkul Foundation, FETO’s organization in the USA.
