In London, Ruwaida Adan, a 15-year-old girl, tragically died after getting entangled in her headscarf while go-karting.

It was revealed that Ruwaida Adan was driving a faulty vehicle during a go-kart event at Capital Karts in Barking, East London. As the young girl started racing on the track, the fabric of her headscarf got caught in a part of the vehicle that should have been covered.

Due to the lack of protection, her headscarf got entangled in the rotating rear axle gear and belt, causing the young girl to suffocate in front of her friends. The student from Newham received first aid at the go-kart arena, was resuscitated, and taken to the hospital.

Despite all efforts at the hospital, she could not be saved. Ruwaida passed away after four days in the hospital due to „hypoxic brain damage“ and „drowning.“

Her mother, Amina Mohamed, said: „She had such a beautiful smile and a sweet soul. She was only 15 years old and had her whole life ahead of her. Ruwaida had so many plans and dreams for the future that will now never come true. Her absence has left something irreplaceable, a void in our lives.“

The go-kart business operated by Capital Karts was found to have significant health and safety issues during the investigation. After its issues were discovered, it was fined.

According to the investigation by the Barking and Dagenham Board, it was found that none of the go-karts were inspected before the race.
