Australian football player Sam Kerr, has been accused of racially abusing a police officer in England.
The 30-year-old Kerr appeared in court and was charged with using „insults, threats, and offensive language“ towards a police officer during an argument over the price of a taxi in Twickenham, southwest London.
Kerr appeared before the court in Kingston via video link and defended himself.
The Metropolitan Police said in a statement: „Samantha Kerr is charged with a racist offense under Part 4A of the Public Order Act. “The charge relates to an altercation over the price of a taxi in Twickenham on January 30, 2023, involving a police officer present at the scene.”
In a statement from the Australian Football Association, it said: “We are aware of the matter. As this is an ongoing legal issue, we cannot comment further at this time. Our focus is on continuing to support all our players on and off the field. We will monitor the situation.”It was stated.
The striker, who is the captain of Australia, became one of the country’s most famous athletes after the Matildas reached the semi-finals of the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand last year.
