The King of Jordan, II. Abdullah, traveled to Washington, the capital of the USA. King Abdullah is set to meet with the US President, Joe Biden, here. The two heads of state and government are expected to discuss the ongoing efforts to release hostages held in Gaza and the growing concern over a potential Israeli military operation against the port city of Rafah, as reported by the Associated Press. This will be the first meeting between the allies since last month when three American soldiers were killed in a drone attack on a US base in Jordan.
In the early hours, the Israeli army launched a heavy bombardment on Rafah, the southern city of the Gaza Strip. Health ministry officials in Gaza reported that at least 50 people lost their lives in the attacks. There are fears that the Israeli army will launch a ground operation against the city of Rafah, where war refugees have been seeking shelter since October 7 and the population density has drastically increased.
