Biden gewinnt die Vorwahlen in Michigan im Schatten der Proteststimmen gegen Gaza

T24 International News

Even though President Joe Biden won the primaries held in the state of Michigan to determine the Democratic Party’s frontrunner, the number of „undecided“ voters overshadowed his victory due to his government’s stance on the Gaza conflict.

In the Democratic Party primaries, Biden has no rival who even comes close to his vote count. However, in recent weeks, voters of Arab descent and some young Democrats have launched a campaign to cast undecided votes in response to Biden’s support for Israel.

In Michigan, one of the states with a large Arab-American population, 13.3 percent of voters cast their vote as undecided on Tuesday. Biden received 81.1 percent of the votes, while his rivals Marianne Williamson received 3 percent and Dean Phillips 2.7 percent.

Even when Obama ran unopposed in the state in 2013, the share of undecided votes remained at 9 percent.

The „Listen to Michigan“ team behind the Swing Vote campaign gathered in a room in Dearborn during the vote count and said the result was a victory for them.

Biden did not mention the undecided vote and the „Listen to Michigan“ campaign in his victory speech on Tuesday night.
