Ali Sirmen, one of the most respected figures in Turkish press, author of the newspaper Cumhuriyet, and vice chairman of the board of trustees of the Cumhuriyet Foundation, which owns the newspaper, passed away at the age of 84. Sirmen, who was not only a journalist but also a lawyer and a film and television actor, was 84 years old. The burial arrangements for Sirmen have not yet been shared. Turkish composer of classical music and violinist Sadi Işılay, Ali Sirmen’s grandson, had been undergoing treatment at a hospital in Istanbul for some time.
