Bomb threat on airplane leads to emergency landing in Chicago. A passenger plane en route from the US state of New Jersey to California had to make an emergency landing in Chicago after a threatening letter was found in the restroom. According to reports in US media, a bomb scare occurred on the aircraft operated by United Airlines, which took off from Newark Liberty International Airport bound for Los Angeles. Police initially reported that two hours after takeoff, a note was found in the plane’s restroom stating that the aircraft would explode. Subsequently, the plane carrying 202 passengers was directed to make an emergency landing at O’Hare Airport in Chicago. Security forces evacuated the passengers and conducted an extensive search of the aircraft with police dogs but found nothing. A statement from the FBI office in Chicago later stated, „There is currently no evidence of an immediate threat to public safety or the facility.“ Once the bomb threat was deemed unsubstantiated, the plane resumed its journey from Chicago to Los Angeles International Airport.
